The Potential Demise of the Boy Scouts of America

As you probably know by now, the Boy Scouts of America are in the process of changing their long-standing policy of prohibiting homosexuals from serving in positions of leadership in their organization. Dr. Frank Page, President and CEO of the Executive Committee of the SBC, has written a response to this proposal. You may access this article at http://www.bpnews.net/BPFirstPerson.asp?ID=39608.
Dr. R. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, has also written an article, which you can access at http://www.bpnews.net/BPFirstPerson.asp?ID=39600.
It is interesting to note that about 70 percent of all Scouting units are owned and operated by faith-based organizations. The president of Association of Baptists for Scouting, A. J. Smith, says that "the goal or aim of Scouting is to instill in youth the ability to make moral and ethical decisions over a lifetime by a careful application of the Scout Oath and law. However, this move appears to fly in the face of both the Scout Oath and Law."
As you have noticed, our country continues down the slippery slope of secularism. As followers of JESUS, we must, as Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:15, "...speak the truth in love." We must pray for this decision to be reversed. We must also articulate to the Boy Scouts of America our opposition to this proposed change.
