The Beginning
Jerry Nostrand, Rocky Bales and Nancy Putnam started New Life Counseling Ministry back in 1975. The purpose was to help Christians experience victory over problems such as self-image, rejection, anger, depression, worry, fear, and a multitude of other problems. When an unbeliever would come in, we always sought to make sure that they heard God’s plan of salvation.
In the beginning we agreed that no one would be turned away from counseling because they could not afford it. Some counselors were charging $50, $75 or $100 for 1 hour of counseling. So we told everyone that there was no charge for our counseling. If they could afford a gift, it would be greatly appreciated, but not a requirement to get counseling. We were always a non-profit organization, so any contributions were tax deductible.
GOD faithfully took care of our needs by contributions from other Christian Organizations and/or Christian Brothers and Sisters who believed in our ministry and faithfully contributed to New Life Counseling.
The New Life Counseling Ministry at times has carried on an independent ministry as well as a ministry of Circle Drive Baptist Church. The Bible in the book of Proverbs shows very clearly that counseling is a very important ministry. The following scriptures teach this fact:
Proverbs 11:14, 12:15, 15:22, 19:20, and 20:5.
